XRP ETFs Draw Cash as BTC, ETH Bleed Before the Fed

Rotation, not a rally

Crypto is repositioning ahead of the only two events that matter this week: US CPI and the Fed decision. Money is moving, but it is moving with a scalpel. US spot XRP ETFs pulled in roughly $1.55 million on September 8, while the Bitcoin and Ethereum products logged outflows the same day. This is Wall Street rotating, not accumulating.

Bitcoin whales on the sidelines

The driver is caution at the top of the book, not XRP mania. Analysts note that the large Bitcoin wallets are staying on the sidelines while the rate question hangs open. Odds of a Fed hike have climbed above 60%, a level that squeezes risk assets and raises the cost of carrying leveraged longs. BTC and ETH softened accordingly; XRP simply held up better. Perpetual funding is cooling, the classic tell that speculative longs are being trimmed rather than added.

Why XRP specifically

That the rotation lands on XRP is no accident. With its multi-year SEC fight behind it, the token carries the cleanest regulatory tailwind in the space, and its spot ETFs are young enough to post eye-catching percentage inflows off a low base. For institutional desks that want to keep crypto exposure without adding BTC and ETH beta into the Fed, it is the convenient side lane.

What the flows actually tell you

On its own, $1.55 million is a rounding error. The signal is directional: in a defensive tape, capital gravitates to the name with the clearest tailwind. The BTC and ETH outflows are not a liquidation, they are a wait. Desks that do not want extra beta into a possible hike are parking or rotating, and the ETF prints are the visible edge of that.

The trade

The real move will not come from the flows; it will come from the CPI number. A hot print flips rate expectations hawkish and likely drags BTC and ETH lower near term, leaving XRP as relative, not absolute, cover. A soft print reverses the rotation fast, and the stopped-out Bitcoin longs pile back in. Until then the market stays hunkered down, and the thin ETF numbers read as a sentiment gauge rather than a trend.
