Bitcoin Whales Hit 3-Month High as Big Money Buys Weakness

Accumulation Meets Fear

The crypto tape is stuck in a grind. Despite the signed Iran deal and a brief pop back above $66,000 in mid-June, Bitcoin is still sitting in the lower half of the $60Ks, and sentiment remains pinned at bear-market levels. Yet that weakness is exactly what the largest holders are buying.

On-chain data from Santiment shows wallets holding more than 1,000 BTC have rebuilt to roughly 7.17 million coins — the most since March 14, a clean three-month high. These addresses are treating the $60K zone as a value area and adding supply while retail hesitates.

Why the Divergence Matters

The story here isn't the price — it's the split in the market. While retail sentiment and the fear gauge stay deep in the red, whales are pulling coins off exchanges and into accumulation. Institutions are reinforcing the move: Strategy added around $100 million of Bitcoin as the price jumped above $66,000 on June 16.

Historically, this exact setup — large holders buying while the crowd capitulates — has often front-run local bottoms. As coins migrate from liquid exchange wallets into passive whale addresses, available supply tightens. If demand returns, that kind of supply squeeze can amplify the move. Notably, part of that shift is coming out of Ethereum. On-chain trackers flag large addresses rotating ETH holdings into Bitcoin — a sign capital is moving up the risk hierarchy and treating BTC as the more resilient block in the current regime.

What Traders Should Watch

Accumulation is a structural signal, not a precise timing tool. Whales can be early by weeks, and not every accumulation phase resolves straight into a rally. The data even shows some addresses distributing — this is net accumulation, not a one-way street.

The real risk stays macro. After Warsh's latest rate decision, another hike is back on the table, and rising real yields weigh on risk assets. Until that test clears, expect volatility to stay elevated and the $60K–$66K range to remain contested.

The takeaway: the on-chain hands are speaking a more constructive language than the chart. A clean break above $66,000 with exchange balances still falling would confirm the whales were right.
