Ondo Perps Hits $7B Volume, Targets Hyperliquid

From Tokenizer to Derivatives Venue

Ondo Finance made its name tokenizing US Treasuries and equities. Since 7 July it also runs a derivatives book: Ondo Perps offers perpetual contracts on tokenized stocks, ETFs and commodities, traded around the clock on-chain at up to 20x leverage. In its first four weeks the platform cleared more than $7 billion in cumulative volume, with roughly $5 billion of that printed since public access opened. Peak sessions have topped $300 million in a single day.

The Edge Sits in the Margin

The real break from rivals is the collateral model. On Ondo Perps, traders post tokenized equities directly as margin. The capital stays invested while it backs the position. Trade on Hyperliquid or a standard perp DEX and you park stablecoins or crypto to do the same job. Ondo is selling that capital efficiency as its core pitch: no double-locked capital, no forced sale to free up buying power.

A Shot at Hyperliquid

Ondo calls it the strongest first month any real-world-asset perps venue has posted, and notes it has already passed rivals Aster and Lighter. The target that matters is Hyperliquid, the dominant on-chain perps exchange that has lately settled more equity than crypto volume. That is exactly the gap Ondo is pushing into: leveraged tokenized stocks, live around the clock.

One Model, Two Directions

The collateral design cuts both ways. Posting tokenized stocks as margin means a drawdown in the collateral and in the perp position can compound when the equity market and the leveraged bet move the same way. For traders it lowers the cost of capital and raises correlation risk in the book at the same time. Stack 20x leverage on an already volatile tokenized share and tight risk management stops being optional. Even so, Ondo is answering a real demand: capital that keeps working around the clock instead of sitting idle over the weekend when the traditional exchanges are shut.

What Traders Should Watch

For the ONDO token, the traction is not yet a price story. The coin trades near $0.35 and has barely twitched on the volume record. The pattern is familiar: usage and token price rarely move together this early in a protocol's life. What counts now is whether Ondo converts the flow into real fee revenue and holds liquidity once launch incentives fade. If the RWA-perps thesis lands, it drags the on-chain derivatives fight away from pure crypto pairs and toward tokenized equity markets. That is the bigger story behind the $7 billion.
