Bitcoin Reclaims $81,000 as Crypto Shrugs Off Fed Hike

Bitcoin is back above $81,000 as ETF inflows return, days after the Fed's rate hike and the Clarity Act's collapse. Why oil is now the trade to watch.

Bitcoin Reclaims $81,000 as Crypto Shrugs Off Fed Hike

Two Setbacks, One Rebound

Crypto had every reason to sell off this week. The Clarity Act died in the Senate on Tuesday. A day later the Federal Reserve lifted rates by 25 basis points to 3.75-4.00%, its first hike since 2023. Both were read as blows to the easy-money case. The market did the opposite.

Bitcoin trades near $81,000 on Saturday morning, up 4.68%. Ether is up 6.93% at $2,624, Solana 6.8% at $112, XRP around $1.42. The majors are moving in lockstep, which tells you this is macro relief rather than a single-coin catalyst.

The Money Came Back

The real driver sits in the ETF flows. US spot Bitcoin products pulled in a net $433 million on Friday, with Ether ETFs adding another $144 million. After weeks of redemptions, institutional flow has flipped positive. That matters more than price action: ETF buyers are not parking play money.

The regulatory picture was not all loss either. With Clarity dead, the SEC and CFTC signaled they would push their own rulebooks forward. The SEC cleared a limited path for onchain trading of tokenized US equities; the CFTC eased requirements for certain software providers. Congress is stuck. The agencies are not.

Oil Holds the Cards

What stands out is the speed of the recovery. Neither the first hike in three years nor rising Treasury yields triggered a sustained sell-off. That points to a demand base with real conviction underneath it.

The catch lies outside crypto. Brent settled at $103.36 a barrel on Friday, driven by the Iran war and fears over the Strait of Hormuz. If oil rolls over for good, inflation pressure eases and the Fed regains room to move. If energy stays expensive, more hikes are on the table, and with them the next drag on risk assets.

For traders the setup is clean: the rebound holds as long as ETF inflows persist and oil does not break out. A push through $82,000 opens room higher; a drop back under $78,000 kills the bounce thesis. The chart worth watching this week is not Bitcoin's. It is Brent's.
