Bitcoin Breaks $60K as the Debasement Trade Unwinds

Bitcoin drops below $60,000 with gold and silver falling alongside. A hawkish Warsh-led Fed and record ETF outflows unwind the debasement trade.

Bitcoin Breaks $60K as the Debasement Trade Unwinds

The inflation hedge loses its anchor

Bitcoin has slipped below the psychologically critical $60,000 level — and this time the catalyst wasn't crypto-native weakness. It was a macro regime shift. Gold, silver and bitcoin are selling off in lockstep. The trade that ran for months as a single bet against dollar debasement is now being unwound at scale.

The trigger sits at the central bank. Fed chair Kevin Warsh has caught the market flat-footed with a harder line: instead of the cut traders had penciled in, a hike is back on the table. Rising real yields and a firmer dollar pull the rug out from precisely the assets bought as a hedge against currency erosion. When the risk-free rate climbs, a yieldless asset like gold — and bitcoin alongside it — loses relative appeal fast.

Record ETF outflows

The move shows up clearest where institutional money is visible: the spot bitcoin ETFs, which are posting record outflows. That's the tell. Professional allocators are cutting risk, not buying the dip. The ETFs were the bull market's core demand engine — when that flow reverses, price loses its single most important bid.

That's the key distinction from earlier pullbacks this cycle. This isn't a liquidation flush of over-levered longs; it's an orderly exit by larger allocators. Those moves grind slower but stick harder — they don't resolve in one capitulation candle.

What traders watch now

The $60,000 line held as the defended level for weeks. With it broken, the technical focus shifts lower, and the question is whether bitcoin closes the week beneath it. As long as Warsh's hawkish rhetoric stands and real yields push higher, the macro wind stays at the back of the dollar and against risk and yieldless assets alike.

Near term, little argues for a fast reversal. If you're positioned, keep the correlation front of mind: while gold, silver and bitcoin fall together, this is a macro regime, not a crypto problem — and it only turns when the Fed softens its tone. That puts the next FOMC at the center of every sizing decision.
